The Mysterious Cape Update
Spring 2026
Dear friends and supporters of Tre Luna Design’s Sara Lipska project, we are excited to update you on our progress since our initial gathering this past winter.
Our visit to France, Poland & the Netherlands
Merrily, Clément Clareton our Paris-based videographer, and I have just completed a 15-day visit to France, Poland, and the Netherlands. During this trip, we conducted interviews with distinguished scholars and historians for our forthcoming documentary, “The Mysterious Cape”. We are currently revising our promotional film to incorporate new discoveries, and notable interviews recorded in Europe. These valuable additions will enable us to refine our film and develop our editor’s script, allowing us to pursue the grants and funding necessary for the advancement and realization of Sara Lipska’s story.
Throughout this process, we have gained deeper insights into the unique and remarkable journey of Sara Lipska. At a time when women faced considerable restrictions and limited opportunities, Sara crafted her own path without established role models.
Born into an Orthodox Jewish merchant family in Mlawa, Poland in 1882, she was an artist and single mother who sustained a prolific career within the Parisian avant-garde community during the Jazz Age and interwar years. A true polymath, Sara excelled as a painter, sculptor, illustrator, fashion designer, interior designer, and architect.
From her arrival in Paris in 1912, her trajectory was extraordinary, beginning as assistant and protégé to Leon Bakst and Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, while collaborating with notable figures including her mentor, Xavery Dunikowski, Paul Poiret, Marie Cuttoli, Helena Rubinstein, Antoine Cireplowski, Chana Orloff, Henri Matisse, and many others among the Polish and international creative communities across art, fashion, design, performance, and architecture.
We are experiencing genuine interest in Lipska among museums, scholars, and art historians. Any additional insights you may have regarding our film, or recommendations of individuals or institutions who might be interested in or supportive of our efforts at sharing Sara’s story, would be sincerely appreciated.
With much appreciation,
Merrily and Thomas
